The host of Euro 2024 is officially out of the tournament after Spain’s Mikel Merion scored a late but decisive goal for his home country. It’s sad to see one of the living legends of football, Toni Kroos retired from football without the trophy of Euro 2024 in his closet, but it is what it is. Spain will be facing France in the semi-final.

The battle between two titans in the football realm ended goalless and the winner was decided by penalty shootout. Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of lifting the Euro 2024 trophy for the one last time shattered after substitute Joao Felix hit the outside of the post when shooting the penalty.

England vs Switzerland

From almost getting eliminated again to winning penalty shootout, England has had its fans go on back-to-back emotional roller coasters since its last match against Slovakia. Bukayo Saka single-handedly rescued England from early-exit with an equalizer, and his teammate made it up for the team in the penalty shootout, thus helped the Three Lions through to the semi-final. England will be facing Netherlands in the semi-final.

Netherlands vs Turkey

Turkey had a great first half until the Netherlands pull themselves together in the second half. Stefan de Vrij scored an equalizer at 70 minutes and Turkey’s Mert Muldur’s own goal at 76 minutes punched the exit ticket of Turkey from the tournament. It’s worth noting that Turkey almost managed to double their lead when Real Madrid’s Guler struck a super-b free-kick on the post, but they failed to capitalize on their opportunities.
